Terms of Use
Last updated: September 2026 · Version 2mindspace is a journaling app, not a medical service. Everything you write stays on your iPhone. These same terms ship inside the app, where you are asked to accept them before you start.
This is not medical care
mindspace is a self-guided journaling and reflection app. It is not a medical device, not a diagnostic tool, and not a substitute for therapy, counseling, psychiatric treatment or any other professional care.
Some exercises draw on ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and positive psychology. Drawing on an idea is not the same as delivering treatment. Nothing in this app is personalized to you, reviewed by a clinician, or intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.
No relationship of any kind — clinical, therapeutic, or professional — is created by using this app.
If you are in crisis
mindspace cannot help in an emergency. No one reads your entries, nothing you write leaves your device, and there is no person or service on the other end of this app.
The app does contain one automatic check. While you are writing a journal entry, the text near your cursor is compared on your device against a fixed list of words and phrases, and if one matches, a card appears with a crisis line on it. That check is crude by design and it is not a safety net. It looks for particular phrasings and nothing else: it does not understand what you have written, it cannot tell whether you are in danger, it will miss most people who are, and it will sometimes show the card to people who are not. It runs only while you are typing in a journal entry, and nowhere else in the app. Nobody is notified when it fires. Do not rely on it, and do not take its silence as a sign that anything is all right.
If you are thinking about harming yourself, are in immediate danger, or are worried about someone else, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line right away. In the United States you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Do not use this app instead of getting help.
Questions written by Apple Intelligence
On devices that support Apple Intelligence, the short question that sometimes appears while you are writing a journal entry may be generated on your device by Apple's on-device language model rather than chosen from a list written by the developer. You can turn these off at any time in Settings under Preferences, and everything else in the app works the same way with them off.
Text produced by a language model is not written, seen, reviewed or approved by the developer before you see it, and cannot be. It is generated in the moment, on your device, from what you have just written. The developer does not control what it says, cannot predict what it will say, and does not endorse, adopt or stand behind any of it. The model is Apple's, its behavior is Apple's to change, and its availability depends on your device and your iOS settings.
The app filters what the model produces before showing it to you, and those filters are a best effort that will not catch everything. A generated question may be irrelevant, wrong, confusing, badly worded, insensitive or upsetting. It may misread what you meant. It may touch on something you did not want raised. It is never advice, never a clinical observation, never a judgment about you, and never a statement of fact about your situation, no matter how it is phrased or how confident it sounds. Treat it as a prompt you are free to ignore, which is all it is.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer accepts no liability for any generated question, for anything it says or fails to say, for any action you take or do not take because of one, or for any distress arising from one. You use this feature at your own risk, and if it is not something you want, turn it off.
Your writing stays on your device
Everything you create in mindspace — journal entries, mind trees, gratitude slips, guided sessions, photos, drawings and voice notes — is stored locally on your iPhone. It is not uploaded to a server, there is no account, and the developer has no access to it and no ability to recover it.
This cuts both ways. Because nothing is stored remotely, deleting the app, erasing your device, or using Delete All Data in Settings will permanently destroy your entries with no backup on our side. If your entries matter to you, keep your own copies — the share and export options in each exercise produce PDFs you can store wherever you like.
Anything you choose to export or share leaves the app, and what happens to it afterwards is outside our control.
Who can use mindspace
You must be at least 13 years old to use mindspace. If you are under 18, you should have permission from a parent or guardian.
You are responsible for keeping your device secure. Entries you have not locked are readable by anyone who can unlock your phone.
Using the app
You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use mindspace on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use.
You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the app, and not to use it in any way that breaks the law or interferes with other people's use of their own devices.
The app itself — its name, design, text, artwork and code — remains the property of its developer. What you write in it remains yours entirely; we claim no rights over your entries and could not access them if we wanted to.
Reminders and notifications
Some exercises can schedule reminders. These are delivered by iOS on your device and depend on notification permission, your device's settings, and iOS itself. Reminders can be delayed or missed for reasons outside the app's control, so please don't rely on them for anything time-critical.
No warranty
mindspace is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defect will be corrected, and we do not warrant that using it will produce any particular outcome for your wellbeing.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of mindspace — including loss of entries caused by device failure, deletion, or the app itself, and including anything arising from text generated on your device by Apple Intelligence.
Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, if anything.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, where the law does not permit that limitation.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the app changes. If they change in a way that matters, you'll be asked to read and accept the new version the next time you open mindspace. Continuing to use the app after accepting means you agree to the updated terms.
